To set up TiviMate on a Fire TV Stick, reveal Developer options under Settings → My Fire TV → About, let the Downloader app install unknown apps, then enter code 272483 in Downloader to get TiviMate from its official site. Open TiviMate, choose Xtream Codes, type the server, username and password from your welcome email, and channels and guide load within minutes.
Key takeaways
- TiviMate installs only on Fire TV models that run Fire OS; the newer Vega OS sticks accept Amazon Appstore apps only.
- Reveal Developer options by pressing Select seven times on your device name in Settings → My Fire TV → About.
- Get TiviMate from its official source: code 272483 in Downloader, or the address tivimate.com/apk.
- Use the Xtream Codes option with your server, username and password so the guide and catch-up load with the channels.
- Premium is bought with the TiviMate Companion app on an Android phone, then activated on the Fire TV.
The whole job takes about fifteen minutes with the Fire TV remote. This guide covers each step in order, then the settings that make TiviMate pleasant to use every day: the guide, catch-up, favourites, playback, Premium, backups and updates. If you use a different device, the setup guide has a page for each one.
Check which Fire TV you have before you start
TiviMate is an Android app, so it installs only on Fire TV devices that run Fire OS, Amazon’s Android-based system, such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Max and the Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd gen). Amazon’s newest sticks run Vega OS instead, which is not Android and takes apps from the Amazon Appstore only.
This guide does not apply to the Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025), the Fire TV Stick HD (2026) or the Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd gen, 2026). On those Vega OS models, neither Downloader nor TiviMate can be installed from outside Amazon’s store, and no setting changes that. Our streaming device buying guide explains Vega OS and which devices still run Android players.
To see your model, open Settings → My Fire TV → About. The first line shows the device name. Compare it with the table below, which uses the operating system listed for each stick in Amazon’s Fire TV device specifications.
| Model | System | Memory / storage | TiviMate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd gen, 2023) | Fire OS 8 | 2 GB / 16 GB | Yes, the most comfortable stick for large lists |
| Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd gen, 2023) | Fire OS 8 | 2 GB / 8 GB | Yes |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) | Fire OS 8 | 2 GB / 8 GB | Yes |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st gen, 2021) | Fire OS 7 | 2 GB / 8 GB | Yes |
| Fire TV Stick HD (2024), Fire TV Stick (3rd gen) and Lite | Fire OS 7 | 1 GB / 8 GB | Yes, but the guide loads more slowly |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) | Vega OS | 1 GB / 8 GB | No |
| Fire TV Stick HD (2026) and Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd gen, 2026) | Vega OS | 1 GB / 8 GB | No |
Two sticks share the name “Fire TV Stick HD”, so check the year. If you own a Vega OS stick, skip to the section on moving to another device near the end of this guide.
What to have ready
Gather these before you pick up the remote. Most failed installs come from a missing piece, not a wrong step.
- Your login details. With an IPTV subscription from us, they arrive by email and in the Online Support chat within minutes of payment: a server address, a username and a password.
- At least 500 MB of free storage. The app is small, but the TV guide for thousands of channels is saved on the stick and refreshed every day.
- A steady connection. If you can, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or an Amazon Ethernet adapter. Our speed test shows download speed, latency and jitter from the same room as the TV.
- An Android phone or tablet, only if you plan to buy TiviMate Premium. The Companion app used to buy it is an Android app.
Step 1: Reveal Developer options and allow installs
Fire TV hides its installation settings until you ask for them. Amazon’s own Fire TV developer documentation describes the same method: press the select button seven times on the device name in the About screen.
- From the home screen, open Settings (the gear icon at the right end of the top row).
- Choose My Fire TV, then About.
- Highlight the first line, your device name, and press the centre Select button seven times in a row. A message tells you that you are now a developer.
- Press Back once. Developer options now appears in the My Fire TV menu.
Leave Developer options for now; you will come back once Downloader is installed. You do not need ADB debugging for this guide, so leave that switch off.
Step 2: Install Downloader and let it install apps
Downloader is a free app from the Amazon Appstore that fetches a file from a web address or a short numeric code. It is the simplest way to bring an app onto a Fire TV without a computer.
- On the home screen, select Find (the magnifying glass), then Search, and type Downloader.
- Choose the Downloader app with the orange icon and select Get or Download.
- Go back to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options.
- Choose Install unknown apps and turn Downloader on. On older software the switch is a single option called Apps from Unknown Sources; turn it on.
If Downloader is missing from the Install unknown apps list, restart the Fire TV, install any waiting system update from the About screen, then look again. Missing entries in that list have been caused by Fire TV software bugs that later updates fixed.
Step 3: Install TiviMate from its official source
TiviMate’s own website gives a Downloader code, so you never need to trust a code from a video or a forum. The code below points to the official file at tivimate.com/apk.
- Open Downloader and allow it to access files if it asks.
- In the box on the Home tab, type 272483 and select Go. You can also type tivimate.com/apk instead.
- When the download finishes, the installer opens. Select Install.
- When you see “App installed”, select Done rather than Open. Downloader then offers to delete the installer file; choose Delete to give the space back.
TiviMate’s site says this direct version has fewer restrictions than the store version and checks for updates on its own. The same app is also on Google Play for Android TV and Google TV devices. Avoid “modded” or “cracked” copies from other sources: they are a common cause of crashes and can contain unwanted code, and our guide to free and paid players explains the risk in detail.
Step 4: Add your playlist with Xtream Codes
The first time TiviMate opens, it shows Add playlist. Later, you find the same option under Settings → Playlists. TiviMate supports three sign-in types: M3U address, Xtream Codes and Stalker portal. Choose Xtream Codes, because it brings the channels, the TV guide, catch-up and the movie and series library in one step.
- Select Xtream Codes.
- Server address: type it exactly as in your email, including http:// and any port number after a colon. Do not add a slash or spaces at the end.
- Username and Password: both are case-sensitive. A capital letter typed in lower case is the most common cause of a failed login.
- Select Next. TiviMate checks the login and counts the channels, movies and series it found.
- Give the playlist a short name you will recognize, then select Done.
The on-screen keyboard is slow for long addresses. The Fire TV mobile app on your phone can act as a remote with a keyboard, which makes this step easier. If TiviMate reports an error, our page on IPTV login errors explains each message. For the difference between the three sign-in types, see Xtream Codes vs M3U.
If you only have an M3U link
Choose the M3U option instead and paste the full playlist address. TiviMate then asks for a TV guide address, which an M3U link does not always include. Without it, channels play but the guide stays empty, so ask Online Support for the guide address that goes with your account.
An M3U address is long, and one wrong character breaks it. Paste it from your phone through the Fire TV mobile app rather than typing it with the remote. Switching to an Xtream Codes login later is simple: add it as a new playlist, check that it works, then delete the M3U one. If the free version allows only one playlist, delete the M3U playlist first.
Set up the TV guide (EPG)
With an Xtream Codes login, the guide address comes with the account, so you do not type anything. The first download can take a few minutes on a 1 GB stick, because the listings for every channel are processed and saved. Leave TiviMate open on any channel until the guide fills in.
The guide settings live under Settings → EPG. Three choices matter most:
- Update interval. Once a day is enough for most homes. More frequent updates use storage and slow the app down on smaller sticks.
- How many days to keep. If your version offers it, keep only as many past days as you actually scroll back through. Fewer days means a smaller file and a faster guide.
- Manual update. When listings look stale, run an update by hand once, wait for it to finish, then reopen the guide.
If programs are always exactly one hour early or late, check the time zone in Settings → Preferences → Time Zone on the Fire TV before touching TiviMate. When the guide stays empty, our TV guide troubleshooting steps cover the remaining causes.
Use catch-up from the guide
On channels with catch-up, TiviMate marks the channel with a small archive or clock icon in the guide. Scroll left along that channel’s row to a program that has already aired, select it, and choose to play it from the start. The video then plays like a recording, with pause and rewind.
Catch-up is available on supported channels only, and how far back you can go varies by channel. If the icon is missing on a channel you expected, the channel itself has no archive; a guide refresh will not add one. Our guide to catch-up, timeshift and recording explains how the three differ and how to record to local storage.
One tip: catch-up depends on correct listings. If the guide shows the wrong time, the program you select will start at the wrong point, so fix the time zone first.
Favourites, groups and a tidy channel list
A full channel list has thousands of entries grouped by country and theme. Spending ten minutes on organization saves time every evening.
Add favourites
While a channel is highlighted in the list or the guide, press and hold Select to open the channel menu, then add it to favourites. TiviMate shows a Favourites group at the top of the list. Add channels in the order you want them, or reorder them later from the same menu.
Hide the groups you never watch
Under Settings → Playlists, open your playlist and look for the group management option. Untick the language and country groups you never use. Hidden groups no longer appear in the guide, which makes scrolling faster and lowers memory use on 1 GB sticks.
Keep the channel numbers stable
If you like typing channel numbers on the remote, set your favourites as the first group so their numbers stay the same after a playlist update. The provider’s full list can change order when channels are added, but your favourites group follows your order.
Playback settings worth changing
TiviMate works well with its defaults, and most people should change nothing on day one. The settings below, under Settings → Playback, are the ones that solve real problems. Change one at a time and test on the same channel, so you know which change helped.
| Setting | Start with | Change it when |
|---|---|---|
| Video decoder | Hardware | One channel shows a green or black picture, or freezes while the sound continues; try Software on that channel |
| Buffer size | The default | You see short pauses a few times an hour on every channel; raise it one step |
| Auto frame rate (AFR) | Off | Smooth pans look jerky, typically on 50 fps channels; turn it on and accept a short black blink when the TV switches mode |
| Audio passthrough (if your version shows it) | Off | You have a sound bar or receiver that decodes surround sound and you want it to do the work |
The decoder is the setting people change most and understand least. A hardware decoder uses the stick’s video chip and handles 4K easily; software decoding uses the processor and is a fallback for unusual streams. Our article on hardware vs software decoding explains the symptoms of each. For buffer values and what they cost in channel-switching delay, see IPTV buffer size settings.
TiviMate Premium: what it adds and how to buy it on Fire TV
TiviMate is free to install, and the free version plays live channels with the guide. Its store listing names features such as multiple playlists, catch-up, recording, multiview and parental controls. Some of them require Premium, and the app shows a Premium message when you open one that does.
Fire TV has no Google Play, so Premium is bought through a separate app. According to its Google Play listing, TiviMate Companion exists to activate Premium on devices without Google Play and to manage your activated devices. It is not a player.
- On an Android phone or tablet, install TiviMate Companion from Google Play.
- Create a TiviMate account in Companion and buy Premium there. Google Play shows the price in your currency before you confirm.
- On the Fire TV, open TiviMate, go to Settings, choose the Premium option and sign in with the same account.
- Back in Companion, the Fire TV now appears in your list of activated devices.
Premium is a fee to the app’s developer for app features only. It has nothing to do with your channel plan, which you pay to us separately. When you replace a stick, remove the old one from the device list in Companion before activating the new one.
Back up your settings before you need them
Favourites, hidden groups and playback choices take time to rebuild. A factory reset, a new stick or a reinstall erases them unless you saved a backup first.
- Use TiviMate’s backup option. Look for backup and restore in TiviMate’s settings. It saves your playlists, favourites and settings to a file you can restore later.
- Know where the file goes. A backup saved on the stick itself is lost in a factory reset. Copy it to a USB drive through an OTG adapter, or to cloud storage, if your setup allows it.
- Keep a paper copy of the login. Your server address, username and password are in the welcome email. Keep that email; it is the one thing a backup cannot replace.
When you restore on a new device, add the playlist first if the backup does not include it, then restore the file. Activate Premium on the new device as described above.
Keep TiviMate and Fire OS up to date
The version installed from tivimate.com/apk checks for updates by itself and offers them when you open the app. Accept the update; your playlist and favourites stay in place. If Fire TV asks whether TiviMate may install apps, allow it in Developer options → Install unknown apps, because the app is now installing its own update.
If an update fails, open Downloader, enter code 272483 again, and install over the existing app. Do not uninstall first, or you lose your settings unless you have a backup.
Fire OS updates matter too. They fix playback bugs and security issues. Check for them in Settings → My Fire TV → About, and leave the stick on standby overnight occasionally so updates can install.
Common TiviMate problems on Fire TV
Most issues fall into a handful of patterns. Find the symptom, then try the fix in the right-hand column before anything else.
| What you see | Likely cause | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| “App not installed” | Low storage, or another TiviMate copy signed differently | Free space; remove the other copy (back up first), then reinstall |
| Downloader shows an error page | Code typed wrong or no internet | Type tivimate.com/apk instead; check the network in Settings |
| Login rejected | Typo, wrong server format, plan ended | Retype carefully; see the login errors article |
| Guide empty or an hour off | Guide not downloaded, wrong time zone | Manual EPG update; check Settings → Preferences → Time Zone |
| Sound but black picture | Decoder or display mode mismatch | Try the Software decoder on that channel; turn AFR off |
| Freezes when opening the guide | Too little free memory on a 1 GB stick | Hide unused groups; close other apps; restart the stick |
| Pauses on every channel | Network or Wi-Fi signal | Test speed at the TV; try 5 GHz or Ethernet |
For pauses that happen on every channel and every app, the cause is almost never TiviMate. Work through our nine buffering fixes first. If the stick feels slow in every menu, our guide to a slow Fire TV Stick with full storage covers cache, storage and heat.
Moving to a new stick, or if yours runs Vega OS
Moving to another Fire OS device is quick: install Downloader and TiviMate as above, add the playlist, restore your backup and activate Premium. Before that, remove the old stick from your Companion device list, and sign out of TiviMate on any device you are giving away.
If your stick runs Vega OS, TiviMate cannot be installed on it. You have two honest options. Use a player that is available in the Amazon Appstore on that stick and supports an Xtream Codes or M3U login, or move to a device that runs Android, such as an older Fire OS stick, a Google TV device or an Android TV box.
The streaming device buying guide linked at the top of this article compares those options by memory, codecs and app availability. Changing devices does not affect your plan: the same login works on any supported player, up to the number of screens you chose.
Still stuck? What to send us
If TiviMate still will not play after these steps, try the same login in a second app or on a phone. If it fails there too, the issue is likely the account or the network; if it works there, the issue is TiviMate or the stick.
Then message Online Support with these details, and we can usually answer in one reply:
- Your Fire TV model and Fire OS version, from Settings → My Fire TV → About.
- The TiviMate version, shown in its settings.
- The exact error text, or a phone photo of the screen.
- Whether it affects every channel or only some, and since when.
- Whether the stick uses Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and your speed test result.
With that information, we can tell quickly whether the fix is a setting on your stick, a change to your login, or something we handle on our side.
Questions people ask
What is the Downloader code for TiviMate?
TiviMate’s official website lists code 272483 for the Downloader app. It points to the official installation file at tivimate.com/apk, which you can also type into Downloader directly. Avoid codes from videos or forums, because they can lead to modified copies of the app.
Can I install TiviMate on the Fire TV Stick 4K Select?
No. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select runs Vega OS, which installs apps from the Amazon Appstore only, and TiviMate is an Android app that is not in that store. The same applies to the 2026 Fire TV Stick HD and the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K. Fire OS models still work.
Why does Developer options not appear on my Fire TV?
Amazon hides it on current software. Open Settings, then My Fire TV, then About, highlight your device name and press the select button seven times. Go back one screen and Developer options appears. If it never appears, your stick may run Vega OS rather than Fire OS.
Do I need TiviMate Premium to watch channels?
No. The free version adds a playlist and plays live channels with the TV guide. Premium is an optional purchase from the app’s developer for extra app features, bought through the TiviMate Companion app on an Android phone. It is separate from your channel plan.
Will I lose my settings when TiviMate updates?
No. Installing an update over the existing app keeps your playlist, favourites and settings. You only lose them if you uninstall first or reset the Fire TV. Save a backup from TiviMate’s settings before any reset or device change, and keep your welcome email with the login.
